Timeline

Do you need a panel upgrade to install an EV charger?
Sometimes. A Level 2 charger typically needs a dedicated 40A or 50A circuit. If your existing panel already has spare capacity and slots, no upgrade is required — we just add a circuit and a 240V outlet or hardwire. Older 100A or full-panel homes usually need a service upgrade to 200A, which we handle in-house under Aldo’s Electrical Contractor license (#EC13015530).
NEMA 14-50 outlet or hardwired install — which is better?
A 14-50 outlet is more flexible: you can move the charger, replace it, or unplug it. A hardwired install is code-required for chargers rated above 40A continuous (e.g. Tesla Wall Connector at 48A / 60A breaker). We spec the right approach for your vehicle and charger before quoting.
Do you pull a permit for EV charger installs?
Every time. Permits, inspection, and utility notification (where required by the local AHJ) are included in the fixed bid. Skipping the permit is a common shortcut that voids your homeowner’s insurance if a fire ever traces back to the circuit.
How long does an EV charger install take?
Most residential installs are same-day — a few hours for the circuit, mount, and outlet or hardwire termination. If a panel upgrade is required, add a day for the service change and a follow-up utility inspection.
